Overview of results

This attendees’ feedback questionnaire was created in order to evaluate the organisation, process and content of the conference organised under the Wikinomics project on 17th October 2014 in Warsaw, Poland. The main goal of the conference was to present the idea of Wiki culture and to encourage people to use Wikinomics products and results in their work in their organisations. As scheduled, the presentations from all partners and from the representatives of Polish Crafts Association, Educational Research Institute and Wikimedia Poland were presented. All the opinions and comments included in this survey will be helpful in modifying and taking further steps under the Wikinomics project, and in better preparation of the similar Wikinomics events in the future.

Survey design

The survey consists of 11 distinct questions. These questions include 9 interval questions in which the respondents were to match their best answer on the likert-type scale or semantic differential scale, and 2 open-ended questions where the respondents had an opportunity to express their opinions and comment on the event, and to suggest improvements to consider by the Wikinomics project partners when preparing next Wikinomics conferences. The questionnaire was distributed among the attendees at the end of the meeting. It took about 10 minutes for the respondents to fill out the survey after which the forms were collected by one of the partners. In total, 15 responses were recieved that complete the results of the conference described in the Wikinomics (WN) Partners Meeting (15,16 and 17 October 2014), minutes from the Bootcamp and Conference.

Profiles of the respondents

  • vocational education representatives

Overview of results

Results of the rating scale type questions suggest that the respondents were generally satisfied with the conference, its content, creating interest and organization on the whole. The respondents feel that, to some extent, information presented could be applicable in their work and they would rather recommend this conference to others, which is quite success. Furthermore, the majority of the respondents claim that the issues raised during the conference met their needs and expectations. Regarding presentations and discussions, most of the attendees found them effective, i.e. 80% of the respondents now understands how to implement Wikinomics approach in non-formal and informal education, 73% understands Learning Outcomes definition and assessment rules, 53% found the role of the Wikiangel clear for the future, and 80% is ready to be involved in Wikinomics. When asked about three the most helpful things from the conference, the respondents put a high value on e-learning platforms, they also listed materials provided, sharing experiences, interaction, explanation of terms, emphasising the need to cooperate, raising the issue of key competences (for more details see the Table below p. 4). The last question provided the participants with an opportunity to comment, give some suggestions and proposals on the next Wikinomics conferences. In view of the foregoing, the respondents emphasised the need to continue the subject as it was their first step towards the Wikinomics environment, they expressed interest in the methodology on the use of platforms mentioned during presentations, they also suggested invitating the students so as they can share their experiences from the use of the program, some highligted the need to specify the vocabulary used (competences-qualifications), and the need to specify the recipient (age, profession, etc.) to whom the conference is adressed. Moreover, the respondents appreciated the attitude of the lecturers, however, they found the presentations too short as they did not exhaust a subject (for more details see the Table below p. 6-7).

The table below provides a summary report of responses obtained from these 15 participants including the text of open-ended responses.

SUMMARY: Comments, suggestions for the next Wikinomics BootCamp conference /  Your proposals and further interests
  • Short presentations didn’t even paint the problem, they only informed us that something exists. I only enjoyed the presentation on e-learning platforms and the one presented by the Institute of Educational Research. Lots of time were wasted on translation, but it was required by the language barrier. Lecturers were very kind and committed – it’s a plus. General comment: I did not like the fact, that during presentations, participants were talking loudly (not necessarily about the subject the speakers were raising)- it was extremely disturbing.
  • Next time I will ask for information to whom the conference is addressed, namely to specify the recipient of the conference (ie. To determine the recipient’s age, profession, etc.)
  • For me it’s the first step –  I will gladly take part in the subsequent presentations – see the need to continue the subject.
  • The relationship competences→qualifications was discussed. For applications in style competences→qualifications the vocabulary creates a paradox. Therefore style certification→ service and industrial application is uncommunicative, and thus does not quarentee the effectiveness of  achieving a goal.
  • Translation of the foreign guests’ speeches confused the understanding of the concepts.
  • I suggest the participation of students who could demonstrate the effects of participation (use) in the above mentioned program.
  • Participation in the conference helped me to understand Wiki culture, improved my interest in the development of key competences and the use of platforms such as Wikipedia, or e-learning platforms. I am waiting for suggestions on methodology that will enable the effective and efficient use of these platforms in education.
